Small Agrotourism & Farm Stay Hotels in Ibiza

What is Agrotourism?
Agrotourism (which can also be spelt a number of ways including; Agro tourism, Agritourism, Agrotourismo, agritourismo and doubtless a number of other variations ) is a term used for hotels that either once were, or still are connected in some way to agriculture. We feature over 15 official Agrotourism hotels in Ibiza. The vast majority were once working farms or Finca’s (estate), with most having stayed in the same family for generations.
There are 3 core criteria to be classed as an Agro hotel

  1. Has no more than 24 rooms
  2. Has a minimum land area of 25,000 square metres
  3. Built pre 1960

The buildings must also stay true to the original buildings to offer a seamless transition from the original structure to the newly constructed buildings. With many buildings dating back over 200 years the hoteliers need to be sympathetic to the style so expect small windows to keep the room temperature lower during the hot summer.

The Agrotourism classification is managed and monitored closely by the local Government in Ibiza and as we understand it they are no longer granting any new Agrotourism licences, so the hotels with this status really are in an exclusive Ibiza group!

An Agrotourism hotel is a great way to experience the real Ibiza and sample some home grown produce surrounded by the beautiful Ibiza landscape. All the hotels offer something slightly different and as we know all the hotels well we can help you select the right hotel for you, from the smallest Agro hotel, the traditional family owned and run Sa VInya den Palerm with just 5 rooms - through to the well-known Atzaro with 24 rooms, spa and high end restaurant.
So how is a Rural hotel different to an Agrotourism Hotel?

Officially a rural hotel may not necessarily have an affiliation with agriculture, more likely to have once been a family home and set in a rural location with at least 50,000 square metres of land and having been built before 1940.
